Recover Unclaimed Cash and Unclaimed Property Yourself at NO COST

You do not need to pay a company to recover unclaimed property owed to you by your state.

It is very easy to recover unclaimed cash and unclaimed property yourself without paying a fee to a company that mails you a letter.

This web page is a service for consumers who might not otherwise be aware that you can look up and send in documentation to reclaim unclaimed property and unclaimed cash from your state treasurer.

As you can see from my blog postings and comments, many people have done it themselves successfully.

How to find the website for your state to look up if there is unclaimed property belonging to you:

1) http://www.unclaimed.org/ is a national organization that is a one-stop way to find the correct forms and process to reclaim property in your state. (National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators)

Search over 40 unclaimed property programs at once on Missing Money. This is the only national database endorsed by NAUPA: http://www.missingmoney.org

2) If you don’t trust their search you can find your local Unclaimed Property department yourself:

Search on unclaimed property state treasurer + add the name of your state within that search. Unfortunately state government websites have no rhyme or reason about their URLs – some are .org, some are .gov and some are .us
It is that simple.

You can download forms and see what the process is for proving who you are to have the state mail the unclaimed property or unclaimed cash to you.

  1. Thank you so much for posting this! I used the link and was able to locate the unclaimed cash myself without giving Pettinato a piece of the cash.

  2. FOUNDMONEY.COM is a paid-for service. Per the site: “We have unlimited search packages available: $19.95 for two months or $24.95 for one full year. ”

It’s not clear what they do that you can’t do on a free state government website. Is the search across all 50 states for each name?
