Keep Updated on Scam Warnings

As we enter (or are we in) a downturn in the economy, it’s especially important to remember the ways people may try to take advantage of you financially. Here are a few resources to help:

The Identity Theft Resource Center compiles scam warnings on a convenient page. If you’re having financial issues related to loans it’s especially important to keep updated on scams going on to avoid being taken advantage of.

And remember that as tax time approaches that most likely the IRS will NOT be emailing you about your refund. And if you don’t think you’re due a tax refund well, it’s most definitely a spam email you’ve received.

Also check the FBI’s Fraud Schemes page for the latest.

Finally, if you use Craigslist, beware of deals that sound too good. They often are. If you’re looking for a rental and the people are “out of the country and have the only key” run for the nearest DELETE button!
