As an ex-UCLA student, the breach of 800,000 student records made me gag (being from LA and all) despite the fact that my credit reports are already frozen.
I hope Bruce Schneier’s comment that”This is barely worth writing about: yet another database attack exposing personal information” does not disuade the media from plastering such issues across the news.
The 800,000 people included in the UCLA database need to be aware they’re vulnerable to fraud. Many of these people have probably moved and will never receive their letters from UCLA. The mass media is a great way to get the word out.
